2755 children with Hellman dental age IIA-IIC were surveyed for the detection of fused
primary teeth. From 85 stone casts of the children having fused teeth, 10 casts with the
fusion of primary central and lateral incisor and 10 casts with the fusion of primary
lateral and canine were selected. With these casts as samples, Fourier's analysis was
performed to compare the average dental arch form of the side of the deciduous
dentition with fused tooth (fused side) and that of opposite normal side(control side).
The results were as follows :
1. The 1st component wave showed the highest contribution rate in all groups, which
meant it almost determines the form of the dental arches.
2. The average form of the dental arches of BC fused teeth was characterized by
deviation from normal curve in the second deciduous molars and the central region of
the deciduous central incisors. In cases of AB fused dentition, deviation was observed in
mesial region of the fused teeth and second deciduous molars.
3. The average form of the dental arches of fused deciduous teeth was smaller than
those of the normal group. The average form of the dental arches of the fused
deciduous teeth was asymmentrical in the fused teeth. The tendency was more
remarkable in AB fused dentition than in BC fused group.
